Banksy

Walking along the  Thames path I came across this piece of street art stencilled onto the river wall. It is by the street artist Banksy. His work is now famous around the world and although I had seen photos of his work I had never come across one before. The work appears overnight on walls or  anywhere there is a blank space, as he has already prepared the stencil so that he can produce the work at speed. His identity is not publicly known although I believe with a little research his name is out there on the internet. His work usually has a political point to make or is just quite funny. When I got home I did some research and found out that this piece was done a few years ago and is called 'The kid with a syringe'. I was very excited when I discovered it was actually  a genuine piece of work by Banksy's.

  8. I always like the stuff that Banksy does - and I find the negative reaction of some people strange. It's not like the wall in this picture is of any value! (Well it is now I suppose!) There was a bit of Banksy news here last month when one of his stencils was cut in half by some council workers!

The beaches at Lorne really are very crowded in the summer - I much prefer the coast in the winter. Reminds me of Weston-super-mare in the summer!

  11. Well done you. Lots of Banksy's work has now been lost to a mixture of other artists defacing it and also councils 'cleaning it up' so finding this one really is pretty awesome.

  12. At first glance I thought it was a fish at the end of the fishing pole. This art makes a poignant statement about modern life. I can see how some could be upset about the placement of the stencil. But how cool to have seen this in person!

  14. I am happy for the introduction to Banksy. Thank you! My response to street art is mixed, as, I suppose it is for all art. Some touches an inner place, some offends and some causes me to stretch my thinking. I'm not sure where Banksy stands yet, but I will definitely be on the lookout for more of his work (via internet I guess, since I don't see the opportunity for a trip to England in my near future).

  22. Hi there - yes I was very close to the birds when I got the pictures - despite the "don’t feed" rule it’s clear that people do, so the birds were willing to sit and hope while I pushed a lens at them.

Thanks for the comment about the wildlife pictures - do I have a secret? No, I just spend as much time outside as possible (which is hard as I have an office job!) and never (well almost never) leave home without a camera.

I think you could be in for a good trip later in the year!
